Dear Patriot, Lady Patriot, Minutemen & Minutemaid Families—
I am so excited to welcome each one of you to the 2018-2019 school year at Bunker Hill CUSD #8! For those new to the district, you won’t be the only new faces this year. At the time of this letter, my family and I have just moved into our new home on W. Morgan Street here in Bunker Hill. We are thrilled to join what we’ve heard is an outstanding community in every sense of the word and can’t wait to meet everyone while out and about in the community.
As a brief introduction, I am thrilled to be starting my 22nd year in public education. I began my career as a middle school English and Social Studies teacher and coach for 9 years before becoming a principal. After serving as an elementary and junior high principal for 6 years, I began my career as a superintendent in the Logan County district New Holland-Middletown ESD #88 in 2012, where I served until last month prior to taking the helm at Bunker Hill.
While I am sure we will have the chance to visit in the community soon, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some exciting updates for our school district. First, the HVAC upgrade and window/door/flooring project at Wolf Ridge is in its final stages and as of right now are scheduled to be finished prior to the first day of school. Yesterday, it was an extremely busy place as carpenters and electricians worked together to ensure that school will be ready for our kids on August 21. Although disruptive for the summer, we are hopeful that the completely refurbished 1972 wing looks enough like a new school that it greatly enhances the learning experience of our primary students this year. Not only will this be aesthetically pleasing and inviting for students to learn, but it will also increase energy efficiency resulting in a significant savings for taxpayers.
While anytime there is a change in leadership some things are bound to look different, one thing that will not change is Bunker Hill’s reputation for outstanding teachers and support staff. You should expect to see a lot more communication from the school district in the future to ensure that this entire community is informed and involved in this never-ending quest to become the best school that we can be. What little I’ve seen already has me convinced that this is a great community for learners, and I’m very thankful for this opportunity to lead Bunker Hill well into the 21st century! This is an exciting time to be a Patriot, Lady Patriot, Minuteman and Minutemaid, so stay tuned and I look forward to meeting many of you next week at registration, as well as seeing you out in the community not only in my role as superintendent, but also as a fellow Bunker Hill community member and a parent in the district that the Dugan family is thrilled to now call home! Enjoy the rest of the summer with your families and take great care!
